Non-Surgical Procedures Include

DERMAL FILLERS, aging over time, moderate to severe lines, and wrinkles start to appear as your skin loses elasticity. Dermal fillers add volume beneath the skin to smooth these lines and folds to help give you the subtle, long-lasting results you desire. Dermal fillers are eased under your skin to instantly smooth out lines and creases. Results look natural, and smooth.

Enhancement: Fillers can be used to enhance your own facial features. Dr Costa uses hyaluronic acid fillers in the JUVEDERM® family in order to achieve the results you desire.

Natural Results: Dr Costa works with you to achieve natural looking results so you can look and feel your best. A natural result enhances your own beauty and does not distract from it by avoiding the appearance of having been “done” or overfilled. Part of Dr Costa’s expertise involves using the entire range of fillers and in what location in order to provide you with a result about which you can have confidence

Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic Acid is the most common substance used in dermal fillers. It is a substance that naturally occurs in the body, holding many times its weight in water. This accounts for its volumizing property. Dermal fillers are designed to provide volume and lift. They can also be used to fill in fine lines and wrinkles.

There are 5 fillers in the JUVEDERM® family which are used for different purposes and locations. We commonly use Juvederm® XC Ultra and Ultra Plus, Volbella™, Voluma™, Vollure™. This allows a specific and detailed treatment plan to be designed for you. Hyaluronic acid is easily reversible, unlike other fillers. This means if there is an area that needs to be taken down, which is rare, it is easily done with an injection of hyaluronidase, which dissolves the filler in that area.

BOTOX® Cosmetic, neuromodulators target one of the underlying causes of wrinkles, the repeated muscle contractions over the years. Neuromodulators temporarily reduce this muscle activity so you’ll begin to notice a visible smoothing of these lines. Neuromodulators are prescription injections proven to help smooth the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face. Because the untreated muscles still work normally, you will be able to maintain your natural facial expressions with lines that are minimized.

Sculptra® Aesthetic by Galderma, is a long lasting filler that lasts over 2 years. It activates your skin’s natural power to revitalize collagen production for a more youthful appearance. Sculptra®  is a unique aesthetic injectable filler treatment due to its ability to stimulate collagen and restore facial volume lost due to aging or illness. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic substance that stimulates collagen production. Sculptra® can be used to treat deep lines, creases, and folds to give a more youthful appearance.

KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin. This helps to improve your profile especially if you have a double chin. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the skin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness when injected beneath the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal. Submental fat, or a double chin, can be treated with KYBELLA® or with liposuction. Treatment with KYBELLA® occurs over 3 to 4 sessions as an in-office procedure. This treatment is safe and effective.

Double chin treatment: Another option which also gives faster results is liposuction. Treatment is completed in one 1 session in the operating room. Dr Costa will review each treatment option with you to help you decide what’s best for you.

What Are Medical-Grade Skincare Products?

Medical-grade skin care products, also known as cosmeceuticals, contain active ingredients that have been clinically proven to have a positive effect on skin. They are often categorized as a blend between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, providing both aesthetic and medicinal benefits.

Why Choose Medical-Grade Skincare?

Cosmeceuticals differ from products you can buy at the local retail store in that they contain ingredients that are capable of penetrating below the top layers of the skin, known as the stratum corneum. Products sold over-the-counter do not affect the skin in biological ways and are unable to penetrate its upper layers. Thus, they are labeled as “cosmetic.” Medical-grade skin care products should only be purchased from a medical or aesthetic practice.

Active Ingredients

Medical-grade skincare lines often use the same ingredients as pharmaceutical ones you can only obtain with a prescription, only in lesser amounts or alternate derivatives. Common examples include antioxidants as in Skinceuticals® CE Ferulic®, retinol such as SkinMedica® Retinol Complex, or peptides such as SkinMedica® TNS Eye Repair®. Cosmeceuticals contain these medical-grade ingredients. Some over the counter brands may contain them as well, but the amount is minimal. Over the counter brands sold in retail stores are not permitted to affect structural change to the skin.

Proven Formulas

As with the amount of a particular ingredient, the formula used for developing a product plays a large role in its effectiveness. Many retail manufacturers use inexpensive methods of mass production to maintain cost. While a cosmeceutical line may come with a slightly higher price tag, it is also likely that it has been developed to a higher standard with quality ingredients to provide effective results.

Medical-grade skin care products penetrate the skin more efficiently than those sold over the counter. This penetration allows the products to achieve desired structural results. Thus, medical-grade products are overall a better value. They offer better results, and you may actually need to use less due to the higher levels of penetration.

When choosing medical-grade skin care products, you will work with Dr. Costa and her team to formulate a skincare regimen that is customized and based on your specific needs and education in the product line, including information on why it was recommended for you and in what order to apply the products for optimal penetration.

Dr Costa and her team have been extensively trained in all of the product lines that work with your skin type. Therefore, it is more likely you will receive the correct product the first time, rather than trying a number of brands in hopes of finding the one that is right for your specific skin needs.
